Say goodbye to a May 2017 release date for Episode VIII.

While that date already seemed like a loooonnng ways away, prepare to wait a bit longer.  6 months longer in fact, as it's now been moved to December!

But with good reason: According to SlashFilm.com, writer/director Rian Johnson is getting an opportunity to rewrite the script for Episode VIII.  The rewrite comes on the heels of the public’s love for the new characters of Rey, Finn and Poe Dameron grew to unexpected heights.

The rewrite is expected to diminish the roles of new characters, specifically a handful of new female characters, while expanding the future roles for Rey, Finn and other The Force Awakens favorites.

Of course you could always look at it in the sense they're trying to make the most money possible, as Episode VII did fairly well with it's December release last year!

Plus with a stand alone Star Wars: Rogue Squadron (Due in theaters December 2016), you would think that would be at least satisfy us until we're ready for Episode VIII coming a year later?

With Star Wars dropping back six months, Disney has announced that the newest addition to The Pirates of the Caribbean will fill the vacancy left by Star Wars on the original release date of May 26th, 2017.
