Ever year thousands of students across the United States compete in the Geography Bees using materials prepared by the National Geographic Society. Geography Bees were held nationwide on April 1st and are open to students between fourth and eighth grade. The winner from each state advances to the National Championship held in Washington, D.C. May 22nd - 25th.

Minnesota's contest was held Friday in St. Cloud and was won by a seventh grader from Rochester.

Lucas Eggers, from STAR Academy Homeschool in Rochester, took the top spot. Eggers received $100 for winning and a trip to the national finals in Washington D.C.

This isn't Lucas' first title. He won the state competition in 2014, too.

Congrats, Lucas. We're proud of you and will be cheering you on in May!
