Washington, D.C. (KROC-AM News) - Two Rochester area teenagers are in the nation’s capitol this week to participate in separate national academic competitions.

13-year-old Lucas Eggers survived the preliminary round of the National Geographic Bee on Monday and will be among the 10 finalists competing in the final round of the contest on Wednesday. The Rochester seventh grader also qualified for the national competition in 2014.

Byron 8th grader Benjamin Lee is in Washington D.C. to represent southeastern Minnesota in the Scripps National Spelling Bee. The preliminary round of the nationally televised competition starts on Wednesday.
