Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - Numerous Rochester police officers and Olmsted County deputies teamed up late Tuesday night to catch a burglary suspect.

Deputies were sent to a residence in the 600 block of 44th Ave Court SW around 10:45 after a woman called to report a man had just entered her home and ran off with her purse. The site is on the west side of West Circle Drive, north of the former Meadow Lakes golf course. As officers were checking the area,  a nearby homeowner reported someone had apparently tried to break into his home earlier in the evening.

And then a call came from a homeowner on the east side of Circle Drive in the 3200 block of Fox Hollow Lane in the Foxcroft neighborhood.  The homeowner said he had just spotted a man in his attached garage. The man fled but was caught by police a short distance away.

The man - identified as 24 year old Janarie Payton - told officers he entered the garage because he was cold. A police spokesman says the man had some bank deposit slips and a jacket taken from one of the homes.

This is the latest in a string of burglaries involving occupied homes in Rochester in recent weeks. The latest involved a woman who was sleeping when a thief entered their residence through an unlocked door. The 39-year-old woman told police she woke up Saturday morning to discover her vehicle was missing. She also discovered the key to the vehicle had been taken from her purse, which she placed in her bedroom when she went to sleep the previous night. The incident occurred in the 4800 block of 19th avenue northwest.
