Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) -  Rochester police believe the men involved in a weekend crime spree that included armed robberies and a carjacking are locals.

Police Capt. John Sherwin says two motels and a liquor store were robbed at gunpoint Saturday afternoon. In the robbery of the Fairfield Inn and Suites near Olive Garden, one of the robbers held a gun to the head of the clerk.

Sherwin says the carjacking involved a pizza delivery driver. He had just made a delivery in the area of 60th St and 25th Ave NW when two men approached and one opened the passenger door and pointed a gun at him. The other man pulled the driver out of the car and they drove off. The car was recovered about a mile away a few hours later after police received a call from a citizen.

Sherwin says it’s also believed the men were involved in a home invasion at The Quarters apartments near RCTC Friday afternoon. A man says two men took $1,000 from him.

Sherwin says in each incident, the men were masked and there was at least one gun that was seen. He says there were four men involved in the robbery of the Fairfield motel. The suspects were described as black males in their late teens or early 20s.

Sherwin says a crime spree like this is rare in any city and that Rochester hasn’t had one in recent memory.
