Rochester Doctor Teaches Jimmy Kimmel how to Wash Hands
Jimmy Kimmel wanted to make sure he was washing his hands right, so he flew a doctor from the Mayo Clinic in Rochester out to Los Angeles to teach him the proper way.
Dr Poland is a specialist in infectious disease. He says proper hand washing can eliminate two colds and about one or two episodes of nausea/diarrhea per year.
The Mayo Clinic has a detailed hand-washing article on their website. They say: "Although it's impossible to keep your hands germ-free, washing your hands frequently can help limit the transfer of bacteria, viruses and other microbes."
The correct way to wash:
- Wet your hands with water.
- Apply soap.
- Lather.
- Rub your hands for at least 20 seconds. Don't forget the back of your hands, your wrists, scrub in between your fingers and under your fingernails, too.
- Rinse.
- Dry your hands.
- Use the paper towel to turn off the faucet.
