The Rochester Fire Department responded to a kitchen fire Friday evening in a home in the 2000 block of Valley High Drive Northwest.

Deputy Chief Steve Belau says a passerby reported the fire around 8:45 p.m. and the flames had spread into the cabinets and walls by the time firefighters arrived at the scene. The residents of the home were away for the evening, and no injuries were reported.

The damage from the blaze was estimated at around $30,000 dollars. The cause remains under investigation.
