St. Paul, MN (KROC-AM News) - The unemployment rate in the Rochester area last month was the lowest for the month of May in 15 years.

The latest statistics from the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development show the jobless rate for Olmsted County slid 3-tenths of a point from April to only 2.6-percent last month. The unemployment rate in May of last year was 3-percent.

The Rochester area continued to enjoy the lowest unemployment rate in the region, where the highest jobless rate was only 3.3-percent in Freeborn County. The largest drops in unemployment were reported in Fillmore and Wabasha Counties, which both saw their jobless rates fall 6-tenth of a point last month.
