Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - Rochester police officers had their hands full early Wednesday dealing with a man who may have been under the influence of drugs.

The 20-year-old man returned to his parents’ home in the 4900 block of 18 ½ Ave NW around 1 a.m. but because of his behavior, was not allowed in.

The upset man got back into his car and rammed a vehicle parked in the driveway, pushing it into the garage. He then broke a window in the house and was trying to get in when officers arrived. He jumped back into his vehicle, rammed a squad car and drove off.

He led officers on a chase that reached speeds of 80-miles-per-hour, eventually driving to the west side of Silver Lake where he intentionally drove into the water. When he refused to get out of the water, officers called firefighters to the scene and they forcefully brought the man to shore and he was taken to St. Mary’s for a mental evaluation.
