Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - It didn’t take long for Rochester Police to hear from a group of young men after their photos were recently posted on the Rochester/Olmsted County Crime Stoppers webpage. Rochester Police Captain John Sherwin says the men, who are from the St. Cloud area, contacted Rochester authorities over the weekend. He says they have already been interviewed by investigators and released pending possible charges stemming from an incident a week ago at a downtown Rochester hotel.

The photos were taken from security camera videos recorded at the Residence Inn by Marriott hotel in downtown Rochester during the early morning hours of April 1st after an Iowa man called 911 and reported a break-in. The 49-year-old victim told police he woke up around 3 a.m. and found two intruders inside his family’s hotel room standing next to his sleeping 14-year-old daughter. The two men ran room after taking a backpack and some headphones but discarded the items after the man began chasing them.

Captain Sherwin says images captured by the security cameras showed six men were able to sneak into the hotel and were going floor-to-floor trying to gain entry into guest rooms. They were able to get inside the hotel after one of them came through the front door and told the clerk that he was visiting a guest on the fifth floor. Instead, he apparently propped open a rear door to allow the others inside.
