Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - The Rochester Police Department has begun equipping officers with body cameras as part of a pilot program to prepare for the full-scale implementation of the department’s new body camera initiative.

Police Lieutenant Craig Anderson says five officers have been issued the cameras and have received training. He plans to equip and train another seven officers next week and anticipates all 12 officers participating in the pilot program will be fully using the body cameras during their regular patrol duties by the end of next week.

The pilot program was designed to iron out potential problems with evidence collection, storage and sharing of the body camera videos before the entire department begins using the devices.
