Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - A Rochester police officer had to use a taser on a student at the Phoenix Academy Tuesday and he was later arrested.

Police say the 17-year-old was arguing with a female student outside the academy and was approached by the school’s liaison officer who tried to separate them. The male student became confrontational with the officer and threatened him, saying “I’ll kill you if I have to. “

The officer became concerned because he was aware of the teen’s earlier felony assault conviction.

As the officer was trying to take the student into custody, the teen tackled him and they fell to the ground. Another officer who had been called to assist had to use his taser twice before the teen was handcuffed.

The teen is now facing felony assault and other charges.
