Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - A man arrested by Rochester Police early Sunday morning on motor vehicle theft and drunk driving charges is apparently a professional basketball player.

Captain John Sherwin says a man identifying himself as 28-year-old Nayan Koshwal was caught behind the wheel of a Rochester Go Direct shuttle van that had been stolen from outside a Rochester hotel. The driver had gone into the hotel around 4 a.m. and discovered the van was gone when he came back outside a few minutes later.

Coincidentally, a Rochester man had just dropped off his girlfriend and was driving behind the Go Direct van when she called his cell phone and informed him the shuttle van had been stolen. Captain Sherwin says the man was able to provide officers with the location of the stolen vehicle, which led to the arrest of Koshwal. Sherwin says a preliminary test put his blood-alcohol-concentration at almost 3 times the legal limit.

League records show Koshwal is currently in the Philadelphia 76ers organization, but most recently played for a development team of the San Antonio Spurs.
