RPU: the water can finally be turned off
Good news today from Rochester Public Utilities: customers that have been running their water since February
to avoid frozen pipes can turn off the faucet. After numerous customers found themselves without water because their supply pipes had frozen due to deep frost, RPU recommended checking the temperature. If it was found to be 40 degrees or colder, the utility advised running a pencil-width stream of water until the frost danger had passed.
Nearly 2,000 customers notified RPU they had taken the advice. It’s not known how many were still running the water when today’s notice was issued.
