Say Cheese! Today is National Selfie Day!

Oh, and it's also the first day of summer too.

But back to the things that really matter...

What was once just an idea, is now a full-blown holiday! Thanks to social media and our smartphones, today recognizes a form of self-portrait that couldn’t exist without them.

But wait? Is 'selfie' actually a word?

Yes, it is actually.

In 2013, Merriam-Webster added it selfie to its dictionary with the following definition: "An image of oneself taken by oneself using a digital camera especially for posting on social networks."

It doesn't get much more 21st century than that. In fact, National Selfie Day was founded the following year by DJ Rick McNeely in 2014.

With the help from selfie sticks and camera phones those devices make it all too easy to take these kinds of photos as well as group selfies (aka groupies).

So relax, enjoy life and...take a selfie.
