Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - The Rochester School District has canceled classes for Tuesday because of an approaching storm system that could bring a foot of snow to the region.

Rochester, along with most of the southern third of Minnesota, is covered by a winter storm warning that will be in effect from 9 a.m. Tuesday through 6 a.m. Wednesday. The National Weather Service has also posted blizzard warnings for south-central and southwestern Minnesota that includes Freeborn and Steele Counties.

At this point, it appears the heaviest snow will fall in a diagonal band that cuts across southeastern Minnesota from just south of the Twin Cities to La Crosse, with 9-12 inches predicted for the Rochester area by Tuesday night. Forecasters are also advising that strong winds could accompany the snow Tuesday afternoon and cause isolated blizzard conditions in open areas of this region.
