Two weeks ago, my wife and I decided to take our tax return money and put it towards upgrading our kitchen. Little did we know how big a project this was going to turn into.

As I've stated before, I'm not even close to being regarded as a handy man. Which is probably why I've always paid the real professionals to do my dirty work in the past.

However, with this being my wife's first home (my second), we decided to tackle as many do-it-yourself projects as we could in order to save some money. So, our first mission this spring was to update our kitchen.

The counter tops were ugly and we've always wanted to put in a back splash, so just like that we had our first project.

After having our granite counter tops professionally installed (because let's be honest, I'm not going to be responsible for messing those up), we took the liberty of buying all the supplies needed for our back splash.

We intended on doing this all in one weekend, but as most parents know it's tough to juggle full-time jobs, a toddler and finding any extra free time to work on projects such as this. Thank God we both have awesome parents who helped us every step of the way and who also kept Charlee occupied while we worked.

In any case, we wrapped things up just before the storm hit last night and we couldn't be happier with it!
