Residents of Wisconsin seeking food stamps may soon be required to take drug tests in order to receive any benefits. The Wisconsin State assembly passed a proposal on Wednesday. The bill will now go in front of the State Senate. If passed by the Senate the measure would go before Governor Scott Walker for his consideration.

There would be additional restrictions too according to a report in The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel:

"Under the proposal, people couldn't buy crab, lobster or other shellfish with food stamps and would have to spend two-thirds of their benefits on produce, beef, pork, poultry, potatoes, dairy products or food available under the Women, Infants and Children nutrition program."

11 other states already require drug testing for those seeking welfare.
