I hate punching in my pin-number so I almost always choose credit. Does it matter?

Claire Tak, from CreditSesame.com, told USA Today, 'Selecting debit and typing in your PIN means the transaction is reflected on your account immediately and the money is withdrawn right away." If you choose credit the purchase is processed offline and could take days to withdraw from your account.

Some banks offer additional protections against fraud when you run your card as credit. It doesn't really matter either way though, as long as you have money in your account.
