Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) -The newest member of the Mayo Clinic Care Network is a well-known health care provider - Shriners Hospitals for Children.

The new relationship will give the Shriners convenient access to Mayo’s expertise. The Shriners organization has 22 locations in the US, Canada and Mexico. They provide advanced care for children with orthopaedic conditions, burns, spinal cord injuries and cleft lip and palate.

The Shriners hospital in Minneapolis actually became a member of the Mayo network two years ago.

“ Mayo Clinic’s similar mission of providing the best care to every patient through integrated clinical practice, education and research, a relationship will give Shriners Hospitals the opportunity to further transform children’s lives,” said Dale W. Stauss, Chairman of the Board of Directors for Shriners Hospitals for Children.

“We’re so pleased to welcome Shriners Hospitals for Children into the network,” said David Hayes, M.D., medical director, Mayo Clinic Care Network. “We have a relationship that dates back to our founders, and we’ve been proud to work with Shriners Hospitals on behalf of patients. Through the network, we’ll be able to work even more closely, sharing what we know to enhance locally delivered care.”

The Mayo Clinic Care Network represents non-ownership relationships. Shriners Hospitals for Children and other members of the network remain independent and share a commitment to improve the quality and delivery of health care. The network, launched in 2011, now has more than 30 member organizations and a reach that extends across the United States and includes locations in Canada, Puerto Rico and Mexico.
