Federal law enforcement officials say a new smartphone app created by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency is credited with the capture of a fugitive sex offender in northern Minnesota.

Acting on a tip from a citizen who recognized Adney Allen from information posted on the agency’s Operation Predator app, officers arrested the 51-year-old man in a remote wooded area of the Red Lake Indian Reservation last week. Allen had been on the run almost 6 years. He vanished shortly before he was indicted by a federal grand jury on child pornography charges in 2009.

ICE launched the new smartphone app in October.
