St. Paul, MN (KROC-AM News) - The Minnesota State Patrol says two of its troopers helped deliver babies along state highways over the weekend.

The most recent incident occurred around 7:30 Sunday evening after Trooper James Orlando made a traffic stop on I-90 near Worthington. While he was parked along the freeway, a vehicle pulled up behind his cruiser and a man jumped and announced that his wife was about to give birth. When the trooper ran back to the second vehicle, he discovered the woman had just given birth to a baby boy.

He made sure the infant was breathing and helped to keep mom and the baby comfortable until an ambulance arrived and transported them to a nearby hospital.

The other birth occurred Saturday afternoon on Highway 77 in Minneapolis, where Trooper Jason Theel responded to a report of a woman in labor. He helped keep the mother comfortable until paramedics arrived, and then took steps to provide them with some privacy as paramedics delivered the child on the side of the highway.

In both cases, the babies and their mothers are doing fine.
