There's a chance that you will be able to purchase alcohol on Sundays in Minnesota.

It's a small chance but still there's a chance.

I've never understood the ban. I can't purchase alcohol on Sundays to take home to consume but I can go out and drink at bars?

Full disclosure - I've never studied the law so maybe there's a valid reason.

The reason I've never looked into it is because I don't care either way. There have been times though when a last minute get-together with friends pops up on a Sunday and it would be nice to have the option of stocking my fridge with adult beverages.

Sunday liquor sales bills have had no hearings this year and have missed two major deadlines according to minnpost.com. That means for the law to change supporters would have to take their argument to the floor and call to amend the bill.

This tactic has been used in the past and is actually gaining steam.

The House voted down the Sunday sales amendment in 2013 by a vote of 106-21. Two years ago it was voted down by the Senate with a vote of 42-22. The Senate vote was closer last year with a 35-28 tally. The House also shot down a bill last year which would have allowed local governments to decide. That vote's final count was 75-57.

We'll have to wait and see how the vote comes out this year - if there even is a vote.

Check out the website whynotsundays.com.  The site describes itself as "A broad-based group of enlightened Minnesotans and companies that support pro-consumer policies and competition rather than protecting the liquor industry’s self-interests. Supporters of the coalition are committed to meeting and exceeding consumer expectations and to supporting competition."
