Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) -  There was some excitement and a five-hour police presence in southwest Rochester Wednesday night.

A person walking a dog along the west Highway 52 frontage road in the area of Salem Rd and Skyline Dr. SW spotted a suspicious-looking device and called police around 8:30 PM.

Officers found the device was a bottle containing flashing lights and wires and it was decided to close the road in that area for safety reasons. The St Paul bomb squad was called and it used a robot to secure the device. It was found to be a water bottle containing retail store security tags. The scene was cleared around 1:30 AM.

A police spokesman says it’s suspected the tags were removed from stolen clothing items and placed in the bottle by the thief or thieves. The bottle was then left along the road.
