The Things I Wish I Would Have Known BEFORE I Started Working Out
The gym can be an intimidating place. When I first started working out, I only knew what I had been taught. I was afraid of the unknown. I didn't want to have incorrect form. If I could go back and ease my mind, here are the things I wish I would have known. Tips from me and several of my athletic friends and co-workers.
I've discovered a number of apps that help with everything from diet to the actual workout routine! I bring up diet, because for me that was the biggest thing I wish I would have known. Diet and exercise go hand-in-hand. If I eat a crappy meal before the gym, my workout is much harder, and I can't do as much. Your body needs and deserves good nutrition, especially prior to and after hitting the gym.
The best diet app I've used: MyFitnessPal
The best workout app: BodySpace
Also, don't forget to have fun! You will lose motivation really fast if you are doing a routine that you don't enjoy.
QUALITY Running Shoes are Essential
TroyI never knew the value of running shoes UNTIL I found a good pair. Once I did, both my back pain and knee pain went away.
Supportive Sports Bras are a Must
NikkiI don't care how cheap OR cute some of those so called sports bras are, I will NEVER buy my daughter something that's not supportive. I wish I would have known how important the support is before...
Don't Forget to Rest
TracyWhen you are starting a new journey, you may want to workout as much as possible, BUT you have to give yourself time to recover. Not doing so can cause injury and workout slumps.
Have a Workout Buddy
AnnWorking out with someone (especially in the beginning) is helpful for motivation and accountability.
Keep it Simple
MichaelStart with achievable goals and build up. A complete overhaul is awesome, but often hard to maintain.
Weight Lifting is Key
KatieIt doesn't have to be about Olympic lifting or bodybuilding. You need muscle to burn fat, and even lifting dumbbells can get you the muscles, lines and results you want and need!
How to Avoid Achilles Tendinitis
CurtYou may feel like your body is ready, but don't forget to stretch! Plus, you're not going to be an olympic runner overnight! Increase your activity level GRADUALLY.
