You do it.  I do it.  Heck, your kids DEFINITELY do it.  Of course, I'm talking about calling the "5 Second Rule" whenever your food falls innocently to the floor.

But when you drop food on the floor, as long as you pick it up within FIVE seconds, it’s totally okay to pick it up and eat it, right?  That’s the five-second rule.

Not exactly.

Researchers at Clemson University found that it really doesn’t matter how long the food is on the floor.  The only thing that really does matter is how dirty the floor is.  It doesn’t matter if the food is down there for five, 30 or 60 seconds, you’ll get the same number of cooties.

Now you know.

So let’s throw out the five-second rule and bring in the make-sure-the-floor-is-clean rule.
