AAA just completed a study and found these are the three most common mistakes made by teen drivers.

1. Tunnel Vision: Teens often lock onto the car in front of them when they should be scanning the road for potential dangers.

2.  Speeding. Teenage drivers have been involved in nearly 14,000 fatal accidents in the U.S. since 2011. Roughly one-third of those were caused by speeding.

3.  Distracted driving.  Texting, talking to passengers, checking Facebook or Twitter... 68% of teens admit to driving while distracted.

Adults between the ages of 35 and 55 are just as likely to be speeding on the roads and are guilty of distracted driving as well. In the study, 77% of adults admitted to using their phones while driving. So, before you run home and lecture your kid about safe driving you need to check yourself.

Jennifer Ryan from AAA says, “Parents play a major role in keeping our roads safe. Most teens are learning important driving skills from watching their parents and they are picking up bad behaviors along with the good ones. So it’s up to today’s parents to set a good example. It may end up saving their children’s lives.”
