Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A Rochester man is expected to face a felony assault charge in connection with his efforts to avoid arrest following a traffic stop in Rochester Thursday night.  Rochester Police Lieutenant Mike Sadauskis says an officer assisting and Olmsted County Deputy conducting a DUI stop in northeast Rochester around 11 pm ended up with a cut on his chin that required four stitches and the deputy is being checked for an arm injury due to interactions with 31-year-old Robert Chappuis.

Sadauskis says the man was suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol and possibly an unknown stimulant when he was stopped by the deputy. While the two law officers were speaking with him, Sadauskis says the man became agitated and shoved the deputy to the ground and tried to flee on foot. The officer chased him down and the two men engaged in a struggle during which the officer was injured. Sadauskis say Chappuis was then able to break free, but the officer was able to catch up with him about a block away and place him custody.

Sadauskis says Chappuis is expected to face a felony 4th-degree assault charge, along with misdemeanor counts for obstruction and fleeing police
