Owatonna, MN (KROC-AM News) - The two men responsible for the execution-style murder of a Medford man last year were sentenced today in Steele County Court.

25-year-old Cyrus Trevino and 38-year-old a Gerald Blevins entered into plea agreements in September and admitted to second-degree murder charges stemming from the drug-related that death of 22-year-old Richard Jurgensen. Trevino, who is from Owatonna, was sentenced to almost 32 ½ years in prison, while Blevins was given a 12 ½ year prison term. The two men were accused of taking Jurgensen to a remote spot near Owatonna, where the victim was shot in the head left with his hands bound along a rural road on June 25, 2016.

Investigators say Trevino and Blevins, who is from Bemidji, mistakenly believed Jurgensen was a police informant. According to the criminal complaint, the killing was linked to an earlier drug bust involving Trevino’s brother Jeremy and a woman. The two were arrested in March of last year after being caught with 2.2 pounds of methamphetamine and the woman later referred to Jurgensen as being a “snitch.”

Early in the investigation, Owatonna police said there were no records of Jurgensen acting as an informant.
