Belle Plaine, MN (KROC-AM News) - The Minnesota Department of Public Safety has taken the unusual step of issuing a statewide alert for two suspects in a burglary that occurred in May.

Officials with the State Bureau of Criminal Apprehension say the two thieves, possibly a father and son, managed to convince a retired doctor to allow them into his home in Belle Plaine, and while one of the men kept the victim distracted, the other went into his bedroom and took a 2 foot by 2 foot safe that contained property worth about $1 million.

Investigators say the circumstances of the theft are similar to a Wisconsin crime that occurred about a week earlier and also involved the theft of a safe containing jewelry.

The BCA has released composite sketches of the 2 suspects they can be viewed at KROCAM.com.

Suspect # 1 (on the left) was described as 50 year old male, 5-11, 150 lbs, being a light skinned Hispanic, or dark skinned white male (tan like a construction roofer). Smooth talker, with an accent – possibly from the south.

Suspect # 2 (on the right) was described as a 30 year old male, 5-07, 170 lbs, had a distinguishing feature of having no upper teeth. His face was sunken in from not having teeth for a long time. This male was not smooth and didn’t say much. He was much younger than the first suspect.
