Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - The University of Minnesota’s Nothing Short of Greatness fundraising campaign for new and updated athletic facilities has received a big boost from a well known Rochester businessman.

It was announced that longtime Gopher fan Gus Chafoulias has donated $500,000 to the campaign, which has an overall goal of $190 million.  The announcement was made Thursday evening during a private “meet and greet” event at Chafoulias’ home by U of M football coach Jerry Kill.  The coach thanked Rochester for its longtime support of the Gopher athletics program and said the campaign will help provide facilities that will make teams better and also help with recruiting top athletes.

Also at the event were U of M Director of Athletics Norwood Teague, fundraising campaign chair Lou Nanne, former Gopher and John Marshall football players Mike and Marcus Sherels, U of M Board of Regents member Patricia Simmons and Rochester’s top Gopher fan Mayor Ardell Brede.
