Minneapolis, MN (KROC-AM News) - The University of Minnesota has hired a new Athletics Director.

U of M President Eric Kaler officially introduced Mark Coyle during a news conference Wednesday afternoon. He replaces Norwood Teague, who resigned last year amid a sexual harassment scandal.

"I am so honored to have the opportunity to return to the University of Minnesota and the Big Ten," Coyle said. "This is a tremendous athletics department made up of talented student-athletes and accomplished coaches. I loved my time in Gopher Athletics during an earlier part of my career and I look forward to leading the athletic programs of this great University."

A news release from the University says Coyle is coming to Minnesota from Syracuse University, which hired him as that school’s athletics director last June. Prior to that, he was athletics director at Boise State University and deputy athletics director at the University of Kentucky. Coyle’s resume also includes a stint as Associate Athletic Director for External Relations at the University of Minnesota from 2001 to 2005.

He has a five-year contract with the University of Minnesota and starts with a base salary of $580,000.
