Lyle, MN (KROC-AM News) - The State Patrol has released some additional information about this morning’s crash of a semi-truck into a southeastern Minnesota school.

The State Patrol report on the incident says 32-year-old Jeffrey Kohls was driving the truck that ended up smashing through a wall and into the Lyle Public School around 9 a.m. The man from the south-central Minnesota town of Plato lost control after the truck crashed into the rear of a car that had slowed down to make a left turn. The roads were covered by snow and ice at the time.

The driver of the car was identified as 49-year-old Tina Corporon of Austin. She was not hurt, but her 16-year-old passenger, Ivy Corporon, was transported to the Mayo Clinic Health System in Austin with non-life threatening injuries.

Mower County officials have said about a dozen students were in the classroom where the tractor on the truck came to a stop after crashing through the outside wall. Two of the children were also taken to the Austin hospital with non-life threatening injuries, while the rest of the students inside the school were evacuated to a nearby church, where they waited to be picked up by their parents or guardians.

The Lyle School District has decided to cancel classes tomorrow while crews assess the damage to the school.
