Using Cliches Isn’t Cliche
I was a spazz as a little kid and had a temper that wouldn't quit, so I HATED IT when my mom would use the cliche "patience, perseverance...." Mostly 'cuz I didn't know what perseverance meant....
I pride myself in trying to be original, though most of my life has just been made up of movie quotes. And since movie don't do much good when trying to teach someone a valuable lesson, having a heaping helping of cliches are actually pretty useful, and according to a recent survey by The Telegraph, timeless!
Here's their top 5:
1. Practice makes perfect(It also helps you get to Garnegie Hall)
2. Treat others how you would like to be treated(it is the golden rule, ya know).
3. If at first you don't succeed, try, try again(it helps you not only get to Carnegie Hall, but play in Carnegie Hall)
4. Manners cost nothing(though some artists make bank with "Rude")
5. You can't judge a book by its cover(or can you...?)
Any cliches that mean something to you, or better yet, and cliches you just absolutely cannot stand?
