The Scott County Historical Society has a new exhibit on the history of Valleyfair called "Valleyfair: 40 years of Fun" and it looks awesome!

The 125-acre amusement park is the largest amusement park in the Upper Midwest and seems to grow each year, and I feel like EVERYONE knows about it.  When I moved out here in high school I remember everyone talking about taking trips there over the summer and feeling crazy because I had NO IDEA what people were talking about. Of course, after I went the first time, I understood what all the excitement is about. And since I'm a history/museum geek, I'm super excited to go check out this exhibit!

Here's one cool thing I found out researching the exhibit. There are some employees who have worked there ALL FORTY YEARS!  From what little I can tell, the biggest changes since it opened in 1976 are the staff outfits (they used to wear knickers and long dresses to kind of have a Coney Island circa-1900 feel to the park when they first opened) and the technology for the rides, because they are all computer operated nowadays.

And speaking of rides, it's been 20 years since "Wild Thing" opened and they say it is still the park’s most popular ride!

The exhibit on Valleyfair runs through October, and Valleyfair the amusement park opens next Friday!
