It's a sad sad day if you're a die-hard Simpson's fan, as one of their key contributors is no longer with the show...

The actor behind such iconic characters as Ned Flanders, Principal Skinner and Mr. Burns, Harry Shearer, has left the show.

On Twitter this morning, he wrote that he will no longer be a member of the show's vocal cast when it returns for its 27th season in the fall.

"From [producer] James L. Brooks' lawyer: 'Show will go on, Harry will not be part of it, wish him the best.'"

To which Shearer tweeted: "This is because I wanted what we've always had: the freedom to do other work. Of course, I wish him the very best...Thanks, Simpsons fans, for your support."

Even though I haven't regularly watched the show for the past 5-6 seasons, I'm still a huge fan of the show.  All this comes as quite the shock to me that they would even let him walk.  But when you work with people for over 27+ years, there's got to me more behind the scenes drama that hasn't yet been leaked.

Sad.
