Each year, Minnesota, South Dakota and Wyoming send extra State Troopers out on Memorial Day weekend to make sure everyone is observing traffic laws and reaches their destinations safely. We first reported on this annual safety crackdown back in 2016. At that time Col. Matt Langer, Chief of the Minnesota State Patrol, said: “You can avoid a ticket — and a crash — if you simply buckle up, drive at safe speeds, pay attention and drive sober.”

Troopers will be looking for speeders, hazardous moving violations, seat belt use and impaired driving. The operation also includes the use of patrol aircraft. And WCCO reports: The operation will include police dogs and drug recognition experts.

The Joint I-90 Safety Operation will focus on I-90 from the Wyoming border to the Wisconsin border, but troopers will also be patrolling other state and county roads in the area.
