If you're stressed from the holidays, and the shopping, and the putting up the decorations, there's a new study that shows a sure cure. Washing dishes by hand.

Yep, that's right! Strip it down, unplug and go old school.

Woman's Day has details on a new study that shows when a person washes dishes by hand, or "mindfully", she or he experiences more positive feelings, like inspiration, and fewer negative feelings, such as nervousness.

Huffington Post defines "mindful" or zen dishwashing as "focused". The combination of the smell of the soap, along with the sound and feel of the warm water adds to experience.

Okay, so maybe dishes don't do it for you. That's fine. Shifting gears through any household chore can do the trick. During the summer, a great way to shift gears was to mow the lawn. I do love the smell of fresh cut grass.

This time of year, I would not recommend "mindful" or zen laundry, though. Probably not a good idea to wash or dry clothes by hand...

Maybe, since you've already started a little organizing by pulling the decorations out of storage, try a little winter cleaning to dial down your stress to zero. You probably don't want to spend too much time on it, there's the holiday itinerary to plan, menus, deserts, craft projects, the holiday candy...
