If you noticed a deer trapped in some barbed-wire, what would you do?

That's exactly what happened to my Uncle Lee, his son Tom and his fiance Maddie while they were up north on a fishing trip. As they were driving along a country road to the lake they saw a young fawn entangled within a barbed-wire fence and decided to help the animal before the wolves got a chance at it.

Now before I go any further with the story, I should point out that my family has hunted deer in the past... so just typing that last sentence is a little strange to me.

As they got closer to the deer they could see that it was caught by its hind leg and they noticed all the fresh, splattered blood in the new snow that had fallen over the weekend. My uncle said he tried to settle the deer down a bit, since it was obviously scared of three humans approaching it. The deer still had a ton of strength left, so he decided it had to have gotten trapped fairly recently. Otherwise, there wouldn't have been a lot of fight left in it to even try and escape.

So here's what happened next... CAUTION: SOME GRAPHIC CONTENT/BLOOD

Pretty cool moment to catch on video, huh?

My uncle wanted me to point out that not all hunters have ice in their veins, and some of them do, indeed, have a soft spot for the animals they hunt. He also said the deer escaped into the woods without further harm and he would like to think that they gave it a second chance at life.

What a happy ending. I'm proud to call them all my family, that's for sure!
