Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - The historic Mayo brothers statue was moved this week from the Mayo Civic Center site due to the expansion project that began there this week. Just two blocks away, another well-known piece of downtown Rochester history was also relocated.

The Michaels Restaurant sign that had welcomed customers for decades came down as the building is being readied for demolition. The property was purchased last year by Rochester businessman Gus Chafoulias. He intends to develop the property in order to facilitate a skyway connection to his planned Broadway at Center project on the other side of the street.

Michael’s Restaurant opened its doors in 1951 and closed after serving its final customers on New Year's Eve.
