Motorists are advised to avoid the South Broadway corridor for the next three weeks, or at a minimum, plan your trips to allow for added travel time.

The City of Rochester has awarded a construction contract to Rochester Sand and Gravel for the construction of a traffic signal at the Broadway/3rd Avenue SE intersection. The project also includes a mill and overlay of the bituminous pavement between 25th Street South and TH 14 (12th Street South).

Project Timeline
*As with any project, this schedule is dependent upon favorable weather conditions

Tuesday, October 11
Road closures on Broadway from 25th Street South to 12th Street South (TH 14) will begin. One lane of travel will be maintained in each direction at all times during the work that is scheduled for the next three weeks.

Tuesday, October 11 - Thursday, October 20 (Weeks 1 and 2):
Milling of the existing pavement, followed by new pavement. The milled areas will be paved immediately after the milling, so there will be a tremendous amount of construction activity along Broadway for these operations.

Monday, October 24 through Friday, October 28 (Week 3):
Striping of travel lanes on the new pavement.

In addition, the Minnesota Department of Transportation says motorists using the southbound Highway 52 exit ramp to the northbound lanes of Broadway will be detoured for approximately the next two weeks while the city is working on the roadway. The detour will take motorists south on Broadway to the 40th Street exit, where they will be able to cross over and access northbound Highway 63.

Traffic will also be narrowed to one lane headed north at the Highway 52/Highway 63 interchange through the remainder of the month while crews paint the Highway 52 bridges.

Motorists, pedestrians and bicyclists are advised to use care while driving or walking through and around all work zones. The cooperation and patience of the public is appreciated during the construction.
