What You Should Pay Your Kid For These 11 Chores
The most recent Country Financial Security Index studied how American parents teach their kids about finances with chores and an allowance. It revealed that close to 70% of parents believe an allowance should be given once a child has completed a chore.
Here are 11 chores, and how much the average parent pays their kid for doing them.
1. Mowing the lawn, $6.28 each time.
Does that seem low to you? My yard is kind of a pain to mow so I'd be OK paying 10 bucks for this chore to be completed.
2. Cleaning the garage, $5.20.
Again this seems low. We have a three stall garage, cleaning it can take some time. I'd pay 10 bucks for this chore too.
3. Doing laundry, $2.82.
4. Cleaning a common area like the living room, $2.72.
5. Being responsible for a pet. Meaning feeding or walking them, $2.66.
6. Sweeping, mopping, or vacuuming, $2.55.
7. Dusting or wiping down counter-tops, $2.20.
8. Cleaning their bedroom, $2.07. Plus an extra $1.18 if they make their bed.
9. Doing the dishes, $2.03.
10. Taking out the trash, $1.90.
11. Setting the table, $1.31.
I have no problem with the price for chores 3-11. These should all be part of their weekly expectations and their weekly allowance should cover all of these. What do you think? Too much? Not enough?
