Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A 5th person has filed as a candidate for 5th Ward seat on the Rochester City Council now held by Mark Hickey. His wife Judy filed on Monday, joining Byron Clark, Brittney Marschall, Mike Walters and Shawn Palmer in vying to succeed Hickey, who previously announced he would not be seeking re-election this fall. Primary elections will also be needed to narrow the field of four candidates currently running for the 1st Ward City Council seat being vacated by Ed Hruska and the office of Mayor, where there are also four candidates to succeed Mayor Ardell Brede.

There has also been another filing for one of the four positions on the Rochester School Board that will appear on the November ballot. Adji Roble has joined Cathy Nathan in seeking the #6 position. Two newcomers, Melissa Amundson and Vangie Castro, earlier filed for the #2 position, while incumbent School Board member Jean Marvin is facing a challenge from Dwight Ferguson and current School Board member Julie Workman is currently running unopposed.

A former longtime member of the Olmsted County Board also filed yesterday as a candidate for one of Rochester’s seats in the State House. Republican Paul Wilson is challenging Democrat Tina Liebling, who is also facing a primary challenge from fellow Democrat Abdulkadir Dahir Abdalla. Incumbent Republican Nels Pierson has also filed for re-election to the District 26B House seat, which is also being sought by Democrat Tyrel Clark.

The deadline for candidates to file for this fall’s election is 5 pm today.
