Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) -  Motorists in Rochester's Country Club Manor neighborhood will be affected by a road project scheduled to begin Wednesday.

Traffic control lights will be installed at the intersection of 3rd St and West Circle Dr, a project that has been planned for years.

Planners had contemplated a pedestrian bridge at the intersection, where a young girl was hit and killed by a car in 2006. But costs and other issues led to the decision to install traffic lights.

Also included in the project will be a pedestrian ramp replacement and a new sidewalk and bike trail. During construction, southbound and northbound traffic will be reduced to one lane. Also, 3rd Street will be reduced to right-in/ right-out only. Speeds will also be reduced to 35 MPH. The project is scheduled to be completed by the end of August.

Work is expected to begin soon on another busy Rochester roadway.

The stretch of 6th St SW between Highway 52 on the west and 4th Ave SW on the east is scheduled for a pavement upgrade. This will have an impact on traffic, especially during the morning and afternoon commute hours due to its proximity to the St, Marys Hospital campus.

Besides the road work, bicycle lanes will be added. This means the elimination of on-street parking in the project area.

It’s expected the project will take about three weeks to complete. It is required to be completed by August 24th.
