Since the CDC confirmed the first US case 3 weeks ago, Ebola has dominated the news.  That man died and two health care workers that treated him have since tested positive for the disease. The death toll is now more than 4,000 but the Mayo Clinic says the risk of the average American is very low. They say the risk increases when you travel to Africa, conduct animal research, or provide medical and personal care to people who have Ebola.

If the outbreak continues to spread you'd have to assume that eventually a patient will be transferred to Mayo. After all, it's a world-class medical facility, and you'd think they would be able to handle Ebola patients without too much trouble.

Over the weekend I asked our listeners if they were nervous about that possibility. Here's what a few of them had to say:

Shelley T. - Our government needs to protect its OWN citizens first and foremost. Make it happen! Quit opening our borders up to this life threatening disease.

Amra B. - No. Everyone does realize it doesn't spread that easily from person to person, correct?

Keri C. - Nervous is ok, but panicking is down right stupid. Educate yourself on Ebola and you'll be fine.

Heather G. - I wasn't panicked until I learned the nurse in Texas contracted it while... following infection control procedures etc. They say she must have done something wrong. Really! Like a nurse would screw up with a known deadly disease. The government lies. They should halt the overseas travel for sure.

Tim C. - It is only a matter of time, mayo is the top hospital in the country. Sooner or later it will happen

Colleen M. - Hell yes it worries me!

Kelly S. - To be honest YES!!!

Brandon M. - No worries about it in the least bit, and I work at St. Marys. I know we are well prepared if, in fact, we actually ever get a case. Chances of this actually happening are slim and none, but u should take solace that we have a well prepared medical establishment right in our back yard. Fear is the only thing that is spreading like wildfire in the country.

So would you be you nervous?  I wouldn't be concerned about my own well-being but I would worry about the employees at the Clinic - the people that would "provide medical and personal care to people who have Ebola."
