1.4 Inches at Rochester Airport – 15 Inches in Western Minnesota

Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - The heavy snow band from the winter storm that hit the state yesterday ended up farther west than expected.

The snowfall totals were as high as 15 inches from Herman in west-central Minnesota to Pelican Rapids north of Fergus Falls. Up to 9 inches of new snow fell on St. Cloud, while the totals in the Twin Cities ranged from around 4 to 7 inches. In southeastern Minnesota, the snowfall reports range from nearly 4 inches in Plainview to less than an inch and a half.

The official total at the Rochester Airport on Saturday was 1.4 inches, while around 2.5 inches of new snow was reported in northeast Rochester. The city’s snowfall total for the season is now up to 78.4 inches, which is the second highest annual snowfall total on record in Rochester. The city would need to see another 6.7 inches of snow this Spring to tie the record of 85.1 inches set in the winter of 1996-97.

Despite the lower than predicted snowfall from the storm in Rochester, a snow emergency remains in effect through noon on Thursday. Parking is prohibited on the even side of streets on even numbered days and vice versa on odd numbered days between the hours of 4 AM and 7 PM.
