6 Amazing, Low-Cost Destinations In Minnesota

1. Mystery Cave State Park in Preston

Mystery Cave is a beautiful, natural wonder. Above ground, you can walk numerous trails, and you can sign up for a tour to explore the main attraction--the cave. A vehicle permit to enter the park is $7, and guided tours range from $10-$15.

2. Franconia Sculpture Park in Shafer

This place is a real treat and super kid-friendly. Though I wouldn't consider myself an art person, I still found this park extremely enjoyable, and I think most people who visit will agree. What's even better is that this 43-acre park is FREE.

3. Schell's Brewery in New Ulm

New Ulm has a lot to offer its visitors, and Schell's Brewery is one of the local hot spots. This is Minnesota's oldest brewery. Actually, it's the second-oldest family-owned brewery in the country! There is a free on-site museum, but in addition, you can take a tour of the lot for $10 (which does include a tasting opportunity). While in New Ulm, you can also climb the 102-foot Hermann Monument for $3.

4. Jeffers Petroglyphs in Comfrey

Calling all history buffs! When you get to the parking lot, you won't see much, but once you journey down the trail, you'll soon end up at something spectacular: 7,000-year-old sacred rock carvings. Kids under 4 are free, and adults $10.

5. Snake River Fur Post in Pine City

I took my niece here when she was 6, and though she wasn't into the history of the place, we had a ball. There's a lot of hands-on exhibits that are great for kids. The cost is $10 for adults and $8 for seniors, college students, and kids.

6. Soudan Underground Mine State Park- Soudan

This may be one of my favorite attractions on the list. Not only do you get to venture 2,341 feet underground, but you get to learn fascinating history about Minnesota's oldest iron mine. The tour cost is $10 for kids and $15 for adults.
