90,000 Minnesotans Will Get A Pay Raise Next Year

Do you remember your first job and how much you earned? I started out earning the minimum wage, which back in the 90s was just $5.15 an hour. That wasn’t enough to cover all my living expenses, so I quickly realized I needed a second job.

Now that I’m older and have a family, my living expenses have increased a lot. With prices for everything going up, everyone’s expenses have risen. A cost-of-living pay raise would be really helpful—hint, hint, bosses. I’m sure many others would appreciate a pay increase as well.

What Is Minimum Wage in Minnesota?

The federal minimum wage has been set at $7.25 an hour since 2009, and it hasn’t changed since then.

Some states, like Iowa and Wisconsin, still use this federal rate, but others have chosen to set their own minimum wage. For example, Minnesota passed a law a decade ago that adjusts the minimum wage according to inflation. I wish my employer would do the same for me.

Currently, about 90,000 workers in Minnesota are paid the state minimum wage, which is $10.85 per hour for large employers and $8.85 per hour for smaller employers. But this rate is about to increase.

Starting January 1, 2025, the minimum wage in Minnesota will rise to $11.13 an hour. This adjustment will certainly help workers trying to keep up with the rising cost of living.
