The news broke Tuesday that national children's apparel retailer, Gymboree, is filing for bankruptcy and is set to close its 900 stores across the country-- including the Gymboree location right here in Rochester.

According to the Fortune.com story, this filing is the second time Gymboree has filed for bankruptcy in the last two years, after first doing so back in 2017. In corporate filings, the chain appeared to be doing better last year, "with a focus on better quality products and merchandise" the story noted as well as updating its stores and online sites and adding a mobile shopping app.

But, the story also said, those measures didn't appear to do enough to keep the chain from filing for bankruptcy. The story said the closings also affect Gymboree's Crazy 8 and Janie and Jack-branded stores.

Here in Rochester, according to the Apache Mall website, Gymboree is located on Level 1 near the Food Court, between Riddle's Jewelry and Forever 21. There was no word on an exact date the Rochester store will be closing.
