Austin, MN (KROC-AM News) - An Austin man has been sentenced to just over 10-1/2 years in prison for the death of his mother last year.

35-year-old Russell Spoors previously entered a guilty plea to a 3rd-degree murder charge. He was arrested in February 2018 after Austin police responded to the home he shared with his mother and found 60-year-old Susan Spoors suffering from fatal stab wounds.

The criminal complaint stated that she told a member of the emergency medical team that her son was responsible before she died. Prosecutors alleged a fatal stabbing occurred during an altercation between the mother and son over some pills being sought by the son.

In addition to the 128-month prison sentence, Spoors was also ordered to pay almost $6500 in restitution.
